Wed AM we made the short jaunt to IAD, parked in long-term lot, schlepped bags onto and off of the shuttle, and (after standing in multiple lines), secured our boarding passes to fly. Following the usual hassle of security checks, we were into the safe zone (presumably fewer concealed weapons on one side of that check point than on the other). Whew!

To make the early flight from IAD (Dulles airport outside Washington, DC), Pat got us a reservation at a neighboring hotel. (I’ll omit the name and details to keep from saying anything bad, though it wasn’t bad…but it was one of the properties in one of the groups of a company affiliated with one of the US religions). We chose it for a variety of reasons, but the foremost was convenience. Our plan was to arrive at the hotel in the late afternoon, snag dinner, and then sleep before arriving at IAD by 6:30 AM Wed the 13th.
